New wine list, new pleasures for wine experts!

By: Cullera de Boix

Cullera de Boix renews the wine list of its three restaurants in Barcelona with a more accurate and selected list consisting of some seventy varieties. This restaurants is considered one of the best place to eat a paella in Barcelona.

The landmark restaurant in Barcelona offering rice dishes changes its wine list to make it more selected, while keeping the focus on Catalan quality products, but without forgetting the sector’s big brands. The new list, made up of some seventy varieties from a dozen designations of origin, has been available in the group’s restaurants since July.

“As regards wine, I have always opted for quality and the local soil: Catalan wines make up for almost eighty percent of the menu”, says the group owner, Jordi Gabarrell, while adding that various wines from the designations of origin Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Verdejo and Albariño are also included. “I think few people would think of travelling to another country, going to a restaurant and not trying the wines of that region”, he stresses.

The new wine list keeps Cullera de Boix’ commitments: “As to Montsant wine, I have always had products from the Joan d’Anguera winery, which now applies biodynamics; in terms of Penedes wine, we work with the Pardas winery and with the Alemany i Corrió one, a very small winery”, Gabarrell explains.

Dominik A. Huber wines from the Priorat

Now, the restaurant’s big bet are Dominik A. Huber wines (Priorat), from the De Terroir al Limit winery. “We were one of the first restaurants in Barcelona to incorporate it in the menu, and now it is booming. It is a winery founded by a German and a South African, but it is an eminently Catalan wine, and, frankly, I think the owner will end up being one of the world’s great winemakers”, says the founder of Cullera de Boix.

The menu includes other Priorat wines, such as Històric, Genium and Les Crestes; the designation of origin Costers del Segre, with Gotim Bru and Tu Rai, as well as the DO Empordà, with suggestions like Cop de Vent and Espelt Vailet, among others.

In addition to bottles of wine, the restaurant offers the possibility of ordering glasses of white wine, such as Llabustes, Mas Donis, Rupestris or Menganito, and of red wine, like Cap de Turc, Comèdia or La Montesa, among others; it is also possible to have individual glasses of cava and champagne.
