Choose something from the menu and try a different paella every day!

By: Cullera de Boix

The restaurant in Barcelona specialising in rice and paella dishes Cullera de Boix consolidates the formula of offering a rice dish at noon.

Cullera de Boix definitely buries the concept establishing that “paella can only be eaten on Thursdays, according to the restaurant menus”. Customers of this restaurant group can choose every day a rice dish from the lunch menu of the group’s restaurants in Barcelona. A formula which was created in 2001 and is being extended to the group’s new restaurant located on Rambla de Catalunya.

According to the group owner, Jordi Gabarrell, “paella or rice dishes are always the most often chosen and sold menu options”. Based on the key figures available and the public’s great acceptance, Gabarrell chooses to continue to offer a rice dish on the lunch menu, albeit showcasing it.

The rice comes from Molí de Rafelet, a company in Deltebre that produces rice in a traditional wooden mill, the only one doing so in Catalonia

How can this be undertaken? Firstly, thanks to the new venue the group has in the heart of Barcelona, on Rambla de Catalunya: a large space with a young and welcoming design, which also features an outdoor terrace.

Secondly, by offering a quality product: rice comes from Molí de Rafelet, a company in Deltebre that produces rice in a traditional wooden mill, the only one doing so in Catalonia. And, thirdly, offering it at a reasonable price in the heart of Barcelona.

Type of rice dishes on the menu in Cullera de Boix

For regular customers, these are the weekly rice dishes on the menu: Mondays – black rice, Tuesdays – fideuá, Wednesdays – rice with seasonal produce, Thursdays – paella and Fridays – a different rice, such as a risotto.

Take note: every day there is a rice dish on the menu, for example, black rice on Mondays and Thursdays traditional paella

This option is always accompanied by vegetable, fish or meat dishes, which are also garnished with seasonal produce. “On Mondays I opt for fish, such as cod and hake on Tuesdays, for example”, as the chef at Cullera de Boix, Xavier Matarrodona, explains.

The lunch menu consists of the normal option (€12.95) and another one with a more select daily dish (€19.50), which may be, for example: a turbot or lamb shoulder with salad and garnish.
